Free MMORPGs
MMORPGs are just the latest way to role-play. I suppose latest is relative as the online games have been around for something like two dozen years now but still…a technological step up from the sit down games with dice and miniatures (although I still really love those).
Most of the games that get press are the ones that you have to buy and subscribe to but there are a lot of free MMORPGs out there too.
Second Life
It doesn’t make all of the lists but I think it should. It is totally about role-playing and you get to create and customize everything about the world. How great is that?
Runes of Magic
Really nice environment on par with some of the top pay to play games.
Atlantica
The environment is Earth…or the mythical places of Earth. Pretty cool concept and nice graphics.
This is only a sampling of the free MMORPGs available now. With so many to choose from there is no need to spend money on a game if you are feeling a financial crunch. If you don’t like one game you can move on to the next game on your list. The only problem with this strategy is that if you are downloading a bunch of games and then deleting as you work your way through your list to find the perfect environment, your hard drive is bound to get fragmented. If you go through a lot of games before finding your perfect match this could be a really big problem. Make sure after you uninstall a game you take the time to defrag your computer. This will ensure your computer doesn’t become too fragmented and performance isn’t diminished.
Do you have a favorite free MMORPG? Please share so I can give it a try!
