Lord of the Rings Online
I completely love the world of Middle Earth. I read the books when I was in high school and totally fell in love. They were what pushed me into role playing. First it was sit down games, then I moved on to LARPs. I did throughout high school and college. Oddly enough I was the only chick at the sit down games and one of only a handful at the LARPs.
Then I found online MMORPGs. Ah, heaven. Who knew there were millions of people around the world that like to role-play? Not me, that’s for sure. I live in a very small town and was pretty much looked at like a freak (not saying I’m not a little odd, but geesh) because I liked to pretend to be someone (or thing) else every once in awhile. The first MMORPGs I found were fun and escapist but then I found my first true love in this version of gaming, Lord of the Rings. How great is that? You don’t often get a chance to rekindle your first true love, you know.
It’s a lot like other MMORPGs but it’s Lord of the Rings people. Wow. You get to be part of the magic. I’m gushing, I know. I’ll try to control myself. So the only thing I noticed that was a bit of a drawback was that occasionally the game will lag. On the boards some people suggested defragging the hard drive when this happened and I’ve found that solution works quite well. Apparently a fragmented hard drive slows down everything and can muck up fighting (I really hate getting killed because of something as mundane as a fragmented hard drive, yuck).
Were you in love with Lord of the Rings before the game? Were the books the reason you fell in love or the movies?
